Loss of Health Coverage? You May Qualify for a Special Enrollment Period

By May 19, 2025No Comments

Life happens—jobs change, coverage ends, and sometimes you’re left without health insurance when you least expect it. But did you know that losing Minimum Essential Coverage (MEC)—like employer coverage, Medicaid, CHIP, TRICARE, or COBRA—could qualify you for a Special Enrollment Period (SEP)?

Here’s what counts as a loss of coverage:

  • You left your job, and your employer plan ended

  • You aged out of your parents’ plan

  • Your Medicaid or CHIP coverage ended

  • Your COBRA benefits expired

  • You lost TRICARE, VA, or Peace Corps coverage

You have 60 days before or after the coverage loss to enroll in a new plan.

At Fuller Insurance in Santa Rosa Beach, we’re proud to be your authorized agent for Florida Blue, helping individuals and families find affordable health insurance that fits their needs, even outside of Open Enrollment.
