Dear Florida Blue Medicare Choice Plan Members,
If you’re currently enrolled in the Florida Blue Medicare Choice Plan, also known as the statewide Regional PPO plan, we have important information to share about your Medicare coverage for 2025. Please read this carefully, as it affects your health insurance options for the coming year.
What’s Happening?
Florida Blue Medicare has announced that the Medicare Choice Plan (Regional PPO) will no longer be available in 2025. This change is part of what’s called a Service Area Reduction (SAR).
What Does This Mean for You?
If you don’t take action, you’ll only have Original Medicare starting January 1, 2025. While Original Medicare provides Part A and Part B coverage (also known as Hospital and Medical Insurance Coverage), it doesn’t include prescription drug coverage or many of the extra benefits you may currently enjoy.
Good News: You Have Options!
Despite this change, you have a special opportunity to enroll in a new Medicare Advantage plan. Here’s what you need to know:
-
Extended Enrollment Period: You can join a new plan between October 15, 2024, and December 31, 2024.
-
Special Enrollment Period: You’ll have an additional opportunity to join a new plan until February 28, 2025.
-
Guaranteed Issue Rights: You may also be eligible for a Guaranteed Issue Medicare Supplement plan.
Why Can You Still Enroll?
Normally, Medicare Advantage plan changes are limited to specific times of the year. However, because your plan is being discontinued, you qualify for a Special Enrollment Period. The official reason is that you “recently involuntarily lost your creditable prescription drug coverage.”
What Plan Should You Consider?
While you’re free to explore all your options, Florida Blue offers a plan that’s closely related to your current coverage – the Blue Medicare Value PPO plan. This plan might offer similar benefits and could be a good starting point for your research.
